| APPALACHIA Appalachian Culture & Music
This book focuses on an area known
as 'Appalachia'. Until several decades ago this was a remote isolated region
before modern highways allowed convenient access. A culture that retained
archaic dialect and obscure ballad structure the forerunners of Country
Music. Featured are the first 'Country Music' recordings, session dates,
Fiddlers, vocalists and a section devoted to local dialect helpful to
travelers unacquainted with this region. For musicians or record collectors
featured are the first 'County' recordings, Don Richardson, The Carter Family
also excerpts from the correspondence of the late belated Albert Shewmaker of
Kentucky condensed from a ten year period of personal visits by the author to
  Kentucky
